WASHINGTON — An American University student has reported being sexually assaulted on campus.
The student says the assault occurred at a residence hall Wednesday morning.
The university has released few details related to the incident, but says on its website that the assault was reported to the Metropolitan Police Department, and that the victim knew the suspect.

The attack comes amid growing attention to the problem of sexual assaults on college campuses. Reports of sexual assaults on campus rose 50 percent from 2009 to 2012, according to federal figures cited at a congressional hearing on Wednesday.
