Tesla Motor Trend Car of the Year
Your commentary on the Tesla selection of Car of the Year had so many incorrect statements that it is hard to figure out where to begin. First, the Tesla is American made, a public company with a government loan but no handouts. It is made in California at a former GM plant and employs thousands of Americans. It was selected because it is a great car, well designed etc. See the criteria used by Motor Trend.
The car has an entry price of $50,000 after a tax rebate of $7500. It will help us get rid of our dependence on oil and should be praised by you not ridiculed. All of the major car magazines have made it car of the year. Why because it is an exceptional car.
Finally, Tesla plans to make a $30,000 car in few years and therefore you should be praising this company because American innovation will enable many people to have an all electric cool car.
Think before you speak your comments were so off base.
(My Tesla is coming in March and I can't wait)

Core completely misses the point of the Tesla
I was disappointed to hear Chris Core's short-sighted criticism of Motor Trend magazine's selection of the Tesla Model S sedan as its 2013 Car of the Year. The Tesla is a beautiful and innovative car, incredibly fast, virtually silent, uses no petroleum, emits no exhaust, and is made entirely in the United States. Tesla's founder, Elon Musk, has another company which sends rockets to the International Space Station.

Unlike Core's implication, this is not an impractical sports car that real people would never buy; It seats either 5 or 7, has 4 doors, and can charge from any electrical outlet. While it can be outfitted to cost up to $100K, it starts at $47K after Federal and Maryland tax incentives. This is more than the average car, but I'm sure Chris has met people with Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes that cost as much or more, and remember that this car will never have any bills for gasoline or oil changes.

The Tesla is a wonderful example of American engineering and innovation. Instead of faulting that, Chris should do as I did and drive a Tesla. It just might make a believer out of him.
