King conducted on behalf of the Education Resources Information Center examined whether crossing racial boundaries increased the risk of divorce.[9] Using the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth (Cycle VI), the likelihood of divorce for interracial couples to that of same-race couples was compared. Comparisons across marriage cohorts revealed that, overall, interracial couples have higher rates of divorce, particularly for those that married during the late 1980s.[9] The authors found that gender plays a significant role in interracial divorce dynamics: According to the adjusted models predicting divorce as of the 10th year of marriage, interracial marriages that are the most vulnerable involve White females and non-White males (with the exception of White females/Hispanic White males) relative to White/White couples.[9] White wife/Black husband marriages are twice as likely to divorce by the 10th year of marriage compared to White/White couples, while White wife/Asian husband marriages are 59% more likely to end in divorce compared to White/White unions.

No one should be surprised given the mixed race history of the US (after the Native Americans were marginalized) before slavery (blacks lived throughout New England), during slavery (well over over 1 million slave women bore children fathered by white men) and after slavery.

Over the past 20 years, I have noticed many mixed race couples in Reston, Dale City, Woodbridge, Potomac Mills, and Fairfax. Mostly black and white couples and families. However, I am noticing many black and Asian couples in the same areas also. Many with children also.

No one should be surprised. Especially given the fact that our President is in fact mixed race; white (mother), and black (father).

The Pew study, released Thursday, says Virginia now leads the nation in percentage of marriages between blacks and whites, which until 1967 had been a criminal offense in the state. The study finds the children of interracial unions are challenging the typical notions of race.

The article focuses primarily on marriages between whites and BLACKS, not necessarily whites and Asians, or whites and Hispanics. I wonder if the author of this article really believes that Asians, for example are black.

to assume this as Democrats have historically been politically astute at craftiness. They can come up with ways to oppress people and keep them needy through intoxicatingly attractive "programs." During the process Reconstruction they pulled many zingers on Republicans. They are powerful.

Democrats back in the late 1800's were nowhere like Republicans today. Dems were the most treacherous things on the face of the South. They fought tooth and nail to keep blacks under oppressive control, and even became more treacherous when Congress had to step in to kick the South in itsass to move on reconstruction.

Today, Republicans have given up, and thus come off as weak as -- historically they were back in ante-bellum days battling the more powerful Democrats. They, I suspect have developed somewhat of a "if you can't beat 'em, join them" attitude.

It's just an interesting statistic, given that it was the Loving v. Virginia case that got anti-miscegenation laws thrown out.

I have seen many (at least on the surface, as I am not living in their homes) happy marriages between many White men and Latina and/or Asian women. Seems to be a good combination. Some Latina waitresses and hairdressers I have met at Salvadoran / Mexican run businesses in the area who have been divorced from their Latino husbands (some of whom were very abusive to them) have been dating or even remarried white American men. And they tell me how happy they are with their "Gringo" men because they are much more likely to respect women's rights than many old fashioned minded Latino men from the old country. And they also tell me that their American boyfriends or husbands LOVE the way they cook and clean for them on a regular basis.
