Pizza Oven in Riverdale MD-the best there is!
I was so happy to find the great Pizza Oven pizza is still in Riverdale MD. They are much better than Ledos. The thin buttery crust cooked up so perfectly each time. The people who work there work really well together and the owner is there every day. He even opens the shop up early for police officers to enjoy a morning cup of coffee and breakfast. The blizzards last winter didn't even stop them from coming in and working. They wanted to make sure that the people that clean the roads have a place to go to grab a bite-really nice place.
Guiseppi's, behind the Montgomery County Courthouse, next to the Regal Cinemas...
One of the closest taste/flavor/style to a plain 'ol New York Slice that I've found around these parts.
Totally no frills but tasty and cheap.
WTOP should do a taste-off. Get the top 10 from the nominations, and hold a blind taste test with non-local tasters and food critics. Find out which is really best, not just which one has the most locations.
If you are from New York or New Jersey - just go try it. I've been living in MD over 20 years and have been known to drive to NJ to satisfy the need for a real pie. These two are the best local choices.
There was only one place in Washington to get a pizza...
that was the Zebra Grill on Connecticut Avenue, near the National Zoo. Unfortunately long gone. I still dream about their pizza's, dry, flaky, thin crust pizza that was eating the wind. Fresh toppings richly layer. Only the best incrediants. With bit, the taste woud explode in your mouth, you savoring the aroma, the flavors, the cheese...it was like being in heaven. Take a bit, wash it down with an ice cold beer. Take another bit and just linger there for a moment. It was perfect. The service was great, it was a nice little resturant. Family run. They prided themselves on the quality of their products. When the end came, family thought about selling to another buyer but they simply did not believe anyone would stay true the high standards they truly believed in. They were closing for good in October sometime in 1990's. I remember going there and buying three pizza's and took all of them home and froze them in the vain attempts to forestall the inevitable. Ever since then I have been on the search for the holy graile so to speak. Nothing ever came close. There is a place off Washington Blvd in Arlington, the Lost Dog, that comes in a distant second. But nothing will ever take the place of the Zebra Grill. They just did it right.
I have driven by this little dinky place called Spitony's Pizza for many years on my way to Skyline Drive. I have never stopped in, but keep telling myself that one day I will.
have chimed in to offer views on the best pizza in DC.
A whole bunch of new handles here. Makes me think a lot of people signed in just to plug their pizza (employees maybe?). Most of these folks don't seem to have an opinion on much else besides pizza.
On the bright side, we don't have Truthteller around here telling us that pizza is only good when cooked by Democrats....
There are three places I would have to recommend. Brother's Encore in Montclair, Brick Oven Pizza in Baltimore and Brenda's up near Deep Creek Lake in McHenry, MD
It is the best Pizza In DC. If you have not had it, then you should.
