Police Assure Public Memorial is Safe

WASHINGTON - U.S. Park Police are assuring the public the Jefferson Memorial is safe.

What was reported Wednesday night as an attack near the memorial may not have been an attack.

The man who suffered multiple stab wounds told an officer at the memorial that he was attacked between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police tell WTOP the evidence in case is leading the investigation in another direction.

Spokesman Sgt. Scott Fear says the Jeffferson Memorial-area is extremely safe.

A thorough investigation is underway.
