National Geographic Sale Expected to Draw 12,000

November 17, 2005 - 5:48am
WASHINGTON - Naturalist globes that light up, Alpaca sweaters, puzzles and telescopes are just a few of the items you'll find at the National Geographic sale that starts Friday at the D.C. Armory.

Markdowns on the truckloads of stuff that you've seen in National Geographic gift catalogs will be between 25 percent and 80 percent, with some books as low as $10.

New to the sale this year is a mounted exhibition of photography by renowned National Geographic photographer William Albert Allard. Allard captures images of the Amish and Hutterite communities, the U.S. West, minor-league baseball, William Faulkner's Mississippi, the Minnesota lakes, blues music and rodeos.

The three-day event is expected to draw 12,000 bargain hunters.

Admission to the Armory at 2001 E. Capitol Street, NE is free. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

National Geographic warehouse sales will be held Nov. 27 to Nov. 29 in San Diego and from Dec. 2 to Dec. 4 in Denver, Colo.
