High-Intensity Enforcement Catches Speeders in Maryland

March 31, 2005 - 7:51am
ROCKVILLE, Md. -- If you were one of the motorists caught for speeding on Connecticut Avenue Tuesday morning, you have company.

Montgomery County Police conducted a 'speed sting' between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday between the District line and Wheaton. Ten police officers were stationed at various intersections along Connecticut Avenue, including at Oxford, Everett and Glendridge streets.

A total of 118 citations and two warnings were issued for speeding in the 30-and 35-mile-per-hour zones. The highest speed recorded was a whopping 67 miles in a 35-mile per hour zone.

Last year, more than 14,000 tickets for speeding were issued on Connecticut Avenue. To help magnify the importance of driving the speed limit, police publicize a High-Intensity Enforcement once a month.

Montgomery Police say they'll do it again on April 3, but they won't say where or what time.
