Man Found Dead in Burning D.C. Rowhouse

March 31, 2005 - 6:50am
WASHINGTON (AP) - A Sunday morning fire that left one man dead in Georgetown has been ruled accidental.

The victim has been identified as Daniel Rigby, 21, of River Edge, N.J.

He was a senior studying business at Georgetown University.

D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services investigators say an overloaded extension cord in the basement of the rowhouse in the 3300 block of Prospect Street, NW, overheated around 8:30 a.m., starting a fire that caused an estimated $35,000 in damage.

Rigby's body was found in the basement of the home.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter says residents of the home told investigators there was a party in the house Saturday night. Etter says investigators found no fire code violations in the building and the smoke alarms were working.
