Schools Participate in Moment of Silence

April 20, 2007 - 8:19am
FAIRFAX, Va. - Many schools in northern Virginia are planning a moment of silence to remember those who died at Virginia Tech.

Fairfax County schools have canceled all evening activities that occur after 6 p.m., including extracurricular activities, interscholastic contests, team practices, field trips, adult and community education classes and recreation programs in schools. The school system says School Age Child Care (SACC) centers will remain open until 6:15 p.m. Friday.

A 7:30 memorial at Robinson Secondary School will be held.

Fairfax County schools were hard hit by the tragedy, losing six graduates in the shooting spree, including the killer.

Loudoun County schools are encouraging all students and staff to wear maroon and orange in support of Virginia Tech. It's designating Friday as "Hokie Hope Day."
