CBS: Libby to be Indicted

October 28, 2005 - 9:38am
WASHINGTON - CBS News has learned Vice President Dick Cheney's top aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the Vice President's top aide, will be indicted Friday on charges of making false statements to a federal grand jury.

Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will hold news conference at 2 p.m.

A source tells CBS that presidential confidant Karl Rove won't face immediate indictment but will remain under investigation.

Speculation has been flying across Washington about who would be indicted for expposing covert CIA officer Valerie Plame.

When the investigation began two years ago, a White House spokesman checked with Rove and Libby, then assured the public that neither was involved in leaking Plame's identity.

In the past month, it was revealed that Libby spoke to New York Times reporter Judith Miller, who says their conversations included Plame's CIA status.
