Crashes on I-95 Cause Afternoon Problems

August 16, 2005 - 5:29pm
SPRINGFIELD, Va. - Two separate accidents caused one big traffic mess Tuesday afternoon on a stretch of Interstate-95 in Fairfax County.

Virginia State Police say the wrecks happened in the southbound lanes near Route 7100. The first crash involved two tractor-trailers, a trash truck and a pickup. In a separate accident, one SUV rear-ended another.

A total of five people were hurt.

The southbound local lanes were shut for part of the afternoon, but re-opened around 3:30 p.m.

State police are continuing to investigate what caused the accidents. They say charges are pending.
