Grunts a Good Sign for Baby Panda

August 1, 2005 - 6:21pm
WASHINGTON -- The panda cub at the National Zoo continues to get healthier.

Leaders at the Zoo say the cub's frequent grunts are a sign of strong nursing. They say the cub broke its "grunting record," making 278 such noises in a three-hour period.

The cub will be a month old on Aug. 9. Scientists are eager to do an examination and hopefully will determine the sex soon.

The panda cub will likely get a Chinese name on its 100th day of life.
