FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- A parent. A kid. A long car trip. Sounds familiar. But this went way out of control.

A Virginia mom is expected in court Friday, accused of abandoning her 4-year-old on the Capital Beltway.

The child was found by a motorist who called police. The motorist told WJLA-TV she asked the boy why he was alone on the highway and he said, "My mommy left me."

The boy said his mother had gotten angry and pushed him out of the car. He told police his mommy was angry that he was not sitting down like he was supposed to.

Police say the little boy tried to get back in the car, and his mother ran into him as she sped off.

Green faces charges of felony child neglect and hit-and-run.

The little boy is OK physically. He's in the custody of Fairfax Child Protective Services.

The child was left along Interstate 495 near the Lee Highway overpass in Falls Church after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Green was found several hours later. She was arrested near Richmond following a car accident.

While the Fairfax County Department of Family Services cannot by law acknowlege the child is in its custody, it does have a fund to help children who are in emergency care.

You can donate by writing a check to the Fairfax County Department of Family Services. Note that the check is for the Child Abuse Prevention and Training Fund.
