WTOP – COMMUTER IDLE (IDOL) CONTEST

OFFICIAL RULES

  1. HOW TO ENTER: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. In order to enter, from Monday, April 28, 2014, through 5:00 p.m. on Friday May 2, 2014, go to the www.wtop.com website, click on the “Contest” icon under the living section of the navigation bar, click on the “Commuter Idle ” icon and complete the entry form, which includes writing a story regarding your daily commute. WTOP is not responsible for problems accessing the website or completing the entry, technical or atmospheric conditions that disrupt the completion of the entry, or any other problems which might or might not result from this contest. Any person submitting more than one entry or an entry without a story attached may be disqualified.
  2. HOW TO PLAY/HOW THE WINNER IS CHOSEN: Enter as explained in Paragraph 1 above. From all eligible entries submitted, a panel of judges comprised of staff members from WTOP, in their sole discretion, will determine ten (10) semi- finalists based on, but not limited to, the following judging criteria: distance and typical commute time, as well as number of days a week commuting (33%), inconvenience of commute (33%) and impact of commute (e.g., being late for work, family, school (34%). The contestants with the top ten (10) highest scores using the judging criteria will be deemed the contest semi-finalists. Then, from Monday, May 5, 2014, through Tuesday May 13, 2014, viewers may log on to www.wtop.com and vote for the entry that they think deserves to win; limit, one vote per email address per day. The top three (3) semi-finalists with the most votes during the voting period will be deemed the contest finalists. Then, on or about, Friday, May 23, 2014, a panel of qualified judges from WTOP, in their sole and absolute discretion, will determine the contest first place winner from the three (3) contest finalists, based on the judging criteria above. The finalist with the highest overall score using the judging criteria will be deemed the contest first place winner. The grand prize winner will be contacted via email and telephone. In the event of a tie, the contestant with the highest score in the uniqueness of photograph category will be deemed the winner from among all tying contestants.
  3. PRIZES:
    1. First Place Winner: One (1) prize will be awarded. The winner will receive a $1,000 check, plus a limousine ride to and from work only on one weekday; limousine will not be available between the hours the winner is at work; gratuity not included; date and time to use the limousine to be mutually agreed upon and coordinated with Reston Limousine and WTOP; prize must be used by December 31. 2014. The limousine ride is subject to the policies, practices and procedures of Reston Limousine. Total value of the prize is $1,800.
    2. Second and Third Place Winners: Two (2) prizes will be awarded. Each winner will receive three (3) $50 Exxon Mobile gift cards; total value of each prize is $150. The gift cards are subject to the policies, practices and procedures of Exxon Mobile, and the gift cards do not have an expiration date.

    A qualified winner must also meet the eligibility requirements as set forth in Paragraph 5 of these rules. Each winner is responsible for paying all applicable income taxes. A 1099 form will be submitted to all appropriate taxing authorities, and by signing the Prize Release, each winner accepts the prize, and even if the winner does not use the prize/trip, he/she will be responsible for the applicable taxes.

  4. CLAIMING A PRIZE: Each winner has forty-eight (48) hours from the day he or she wins to verify that he/she is a qualified winner and either accept or decline the prize. If WTOP does not hear from a winner within forty-eight (48) hours of being contacted, WTOP reserves the right to choose another entry as the winner from the remaining eligible entries. Once a winner has completed the prize verification process, the prize will be mailed to the address provided by the winner. WTOP is not responsible for problems resulting from the mailing of the prize to the winner’s home. Each winner must prove he or she is a qualified winner by presenting identification acceptable to WTOP (e.g., state driver’s license; state issued identification card; valid passport with address verification; or birth certificate with social security card and photo identification and address verification). If a winner cannot prove he or she is a qualified winner, the prize will not be awarded. All unclaimed prizes remain the property of WTOP. Prizes will not be issued to winners unless a social security number is presented.
  5. ELIGIBILITY: Individuals must be 18 years or older and residents of Virginia, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia in order to participate in this contest. In order to be eligible to win a prize in this contest, you cannot have won any prize or combination of prizes with a total stated value of $600.00 or more from WTOP within 365 days prior to the awarding of a prize to you in this contest. These restrictions apply even if you reject the prize. Employees of Hubbard Radio Washington, LLC, Hubbard Radio, LLC, WTOP, Navy Federal Credit Union, Exxon Mobil or Reston Limousine, or other radio stations in WTOP’s DMA, or any of their subsidiaries, and their immediate families, are not eligible to enter. Anyone participating in this contest or claiming a prize in this contest in violation of these rules will be disqualified from winning a prize in this contest and from participating in WTOP contests for a period of one year.
  6. RELEASE; CONSENT TO USE LIKENESS, VOICE AND ADDRESS: Each winner must execute an affidavit of eligibility. Each winner (a) agrees to release Hubbard Radio, LLC, Hubbard Radio Washington, LLC, Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc., WTOP, Navy Federal Credit Union, Exxon Mobil and Reston Limousine (including their subsidiaries, affiliates, parent or related companies) from any and all liability, claims, damages and actions arising directly or indirectly out of or sustained in connection with the awarding or acceptance of the prize(s), and/or misuse of any prize, or to participation in the contest or in prize-related activities, including any travel related thereto, and (b) consents to the use by WTOP for promotional purposes, of his or her likeness, voice (and/or address (city/state) and his or her contest entry (which may be posted on the WTOP website) without any additional compensation. By participating in this contest, each participant agrees to the application of these official rules.
  7. WINNER LIST: For the names of the winners, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope before June 15, 2014 to Winners List, Commuter Idol Contest, WTOP, 3400 Idaho Avenue N.W., Washington, D. C. 20016.
  8. MISCELLANEOUS:

    Decisions of WTOP concerning any and all matters with respect to this contest shall be final. Contest void where prohibited or otherwise restricted by law. WTOP reserves the right to change the prize values at any time. WTOP is not responsible for printing errors in the contest materials or these rules. WTOP reserves the right to change these rules, as well as the terms and conditions of this contest, without notice.
