Tailgating ban lifted at Jiffy Lube Live

WASHINGTON — A tailgating ban enacted last year at Jiffy Lube Live was lifted on Wednesday after fans said they were unhappy with the ban.

As first reported in The Washington Post, the concert venue in Bristow, Va. lifted the controversial ban after a lot of displeased fan feedback.

The ban, enacted in May, was in part an effort to increase safety at the venue. Since 2009, four people have died in drunk driving crashes after leaving the concert hall. In response, Jiffy Lube Live started a “no tolerance” alcohol policy.

Angry fans started a boycott of the venue on Facebook, urging fans not to patronize concerts held at Jiffy Lube Live.

On Wednesday, after the announcement that the ban had been lifted, one fan posted on the page, “We won!!!! Thank all of you for making this possible.”

Tailgating is allowed again at the 25,000-capacity venue under new guidelines designed to allow the popular pre-show pastime, while maintaining safety.

Under the new rules, only ticketed concert-goers are allowed in venue parking lots and fans must tailgate in front of their parked cars only. Tailgating should not interfere with traffic and all activities must be in accordance with Virginia State Law — which prohibits drinking in public and public intoxication. The Post reports officials will continue enforcing a prohibition on open alcohol containers in the lot.

Grills are allowed, while tents and canopies are not. Underage drinking also will not be tolerated.

Here are the new tailgating rules.
