11/05: Modest Proposal Sell Out

Neal Augenstein, wtop.com

It's nice to know someone still cares, 25 years later.

We just found out we've sold out our reunion show at Comet Ping Pong, on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Sure, the club only has a standing room capacity of 150, and many of the people who bought the $10 tickets are family, personal friends and work acquaintances. But what if you threw a reunion and nobody came?

With just over three weeks until the show, Modest Proposal is in a good place. It feels like we've relearned the songs, and are now tweaking little things.

The preliminary set list has been drawn up. It includes a song that I wrote in 1985 or '86, and which MP never played or released. It's called "Already an Angel," about a lovely young lady who the band met at a party, just weeks before she was tragically killed in a car crash. We recorded it at rehearsal last week. (Listen to the song in the left-hand column.)

One of the unexpected benefits of the reunion project is learning that many people from "our scene" have been looking for an event that would facilitate seeing old, uh, vintage friends, 25 years later.

We all fall out of touch -- it's part of life. While it's unlikely the MP reunion will generate or renew faded friendships, there's something rejuvenating about the notion of being able to step back in time, at least for a few hours.

And, since everyone now owns digital cameras and video recorders, it's likely the brief journey to "way back when" will live on with My (Older) Generation, here online.

I just hope I don't break a hip.
