WASHINGTON - A 1-10 start to the 2008/2009 season has cost Washington Wizards head coach Eddie Jordan his job.

Team President Ernie Grunfeld informed Jordan of his decision to change coaches in a Monday morning meeting.

Assistant coach Ed Tapscott, who once was head coach at American University, will take over on an interim basis.

In five full seasons Jordan guided the Wizards to four playoff appearances, including a second round appearance in 2005. In each of the last two seasons the Wizards made the playoffs despite injuries to All-Stars Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler.

The slow start to this season has also been marked by the continued absence of Arenas who is recovering from knee surgery. Additionally, the Wizards lost starting center Brendan Haywood to a wrist injury in the preseason.

The Wizards lone win came at home against the Utah Jazz on Nov. 12. The team has a Monday practice and then plays at home Tuesday against Golden State.
