A disturbance along a cold front in West Virginia has been producing widespread shower and thunderstorm activity across central Virginia. The heaviest rain and strongest thunderstorms are expected to remain well south of the Washington area. Any lingering showers and thunderstorms will move out tonight, followed by clearing skies. High pressure will build overhead tomorrow with plenty of sunshine and drier air; however, it won’t last long. Heat and humidity will return Saturday and Sunday with highs in the lower 90s. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms could pop up on Saturday, with an increased likelihood Sunday afternoon. Another push of unseasonably cool and dry air will arrive Tuesday.
