Creative ways to spend your furlough

WASHINGTON — As many residents in the region continue to toil through the government shutdown, some furloughed feds are coming up with creative ways to vent their frustration.

DrunkDialCongress.org encourages shutdown casualties to “call and yell at a random member of Congress.” Simply type in your phone number and the website will do the rest. The site even lists talking points for skittish participants:

  • I can’t watch the panda
  • How dare you not fund veterans?
  • If you can yell at a park ranger after forcing the government to shut down, then I should get to yell at you
  • Why don’t you make yourself useful and at least mow the lawn?

If drunken dialing Congress doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, there’s always the adoption route.

Adopt A Furloughed Worker encourages citizens to take pity on those not receiving pay by buying them a beer. Furloughed feds who want to be adopted just need to post an Instagram video making a case for why they need to be adopted. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #adoptafurloughedworker:
