Boyfriend leads police to missing woman’s remains

WASHINGTON – Maryland police have recovered the remains of a Calvert County woman whose family had reported her missing.

Maryland State Police say the boyfriend of Amanda Lynn Foster, 27, of Lusby, led investigators to her body in the Leonardtown area of St. Mary’s County Friday. Police have detained Foster’s boyfriend, John Warren Gibson Jr., 25, also of Lusby, but had not charged him with any crime as of Friday afternoon.

Foster’s family called police Thursday evening and reported they had not heard from her in several weeks and could not reach her by phone, police say.

While searching for Foster, police found Foster’s truck and Gibson at a home on HG Trueman Road. Gibson initially told police that he hadn’t seen Foster since Wednesday when he dropped her off at a convenience store in California, which is about halfway between Lusby and Leonardtown.

During further questioning, Gibson told police he and Foster argued at the home they shared on San Jose Lane about two weeks earlier on Jan. 12. Gibson told police he stabbed Foster in the chest and then put her body in a trash can.

He loaded her body into Foster’s truck and drove to St. Mary’s County where he hid the can in a wooded area south of Leonardtown, police say.

Friday morning, police took Gibson to the area and he helped them locate her remains. Her body was taken to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is expected to be conducted Saturday to determine the official cause and manner of her death.

Police are treating the case as a homicide.
