Metro is Santa’s new sleigh for Tysons shoppers, skaters

WASHINGTON – For the first time, Black Friday shoppers can take Metro directly to Tysons Corner Center.

Annabel Valladares took the new Silver Line to Tysons from the Huntington Station in Alexandria.

“A lot easier and it makes the trip more relaxed. It gets you calm, ready to shop,” Valladares says of the Metro ride.

Marion Chairman and her friend Jonathan McMullen agree that the Metro makes their shopping trip easier. The two hopped on the Metro at Branch Avenue in Suitland.

“We didn’t have to sit in traffic. It was perfect,” Chairman says.

Shoppers, whether they come by Metro or car, who want to take a break from all those deals and doorbusters, can visit the newly opened ice rink at the shopping center’s outdoor plaza.

“The ice rink will open today on the new plaza outside Tysons Corner Center and it’ll be here throughout the entire winter season,” says Cory Scott, General manager of Tysons Corner Center.

The ice rink is 6,000 square feet with a Shake Shack right next to it plus fire-pits to keep skaters and watchers warm. Scott says there will be music and different events taking place at the plaza throughout the holiday season.

The elevated plaza is between Lord & Taylor and parking deck E.

The skating rink will be open through March 11 with extended hours during the holidays. Admission is $9 for children, seniors and military members and $10 for adults. Skate rental is $6.
