Man pleads guilty in 1992 DC homicide

WASHINGTON (AP) — Prosecutors say s man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 1992 shooting death of a man in Washington’s East Potomac Park.

Lamont Terry pleaded guilty Tuesday in D.C. Superior Court. Prosecutors say that on May 25, 1992, Terry and others drove from Arlington, Virginia, to the District of Columbia, looking for someone to rob. Prosecutors say they went to the southwest Washington park where Terry ordered 27-year-old Chet Matthews out of a car and demanded money and jewelry. Prosecutors say Terry then shot Matthews, an Army veteran who was employed as a postal carrier.

Terry was arrested in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2012. Police have said that two accomplices said he was the triggerman.

Terry’s attorneys did not immediately return telephone calls seeking comment Tuesday evening.
