DINWIDDIE, Va. (AP) — A 10-year-old is recovering after being accidentally sprayed with shotgun pellets in Dinwiddie County during the first day of dove hunting season.
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries said the boy was struck with small pellets from a shotgun shell on Monday afternoon.
The boy who hasn’t been identified was treated and released from a local hospital.
Officials say the incident occurred when a hunter fired at a dove in flight. The boy was hunting with his father.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1tXGymL) that no one has been charged but the incident remains under investigation.
