Obama administration officials to tour Md. jail

BOYDS, Md. (AP) — Labor Secretary Tom Perez and Attorney General Eric Holder plan to visit a suburban Washington jail to highlight a program that’s intended to keep inmates from committing crimes after their release.

The Obama administration officials will visit the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Boyds on Monday. They plan to tour classrooms and facilities that provide inmates with information about the job market.

A federal program called the American Job Center has an office in the jail, and the Labor Department says former inmates are having an easier time finding employment as a result. Perez and Holder will talk about their goal to bring such programs to jails and prisons around the United States.
