May: What’s in season at the farmers market

One local vendor recommends stinging nettles during the spring season. But just as the name suggests, this green is not to be handled with bare hands. Yonkers recommends wearing gloves or using tongs to handle stinging nettles while cooking. Sauté them with a little bit of butter or olive oil and they are delicious. These tomatoes are gown in a greenhouse. Yonkers explains that tomatoes grown in greenhouses can be grown year-round and have a uniform shape. "They are only a certain number of varieties that are actually grown in greenhouses," she says. (WTOP/Rachel Nania)
