WASHINGTON – D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray opened a new southbound DC-295 ramp to save time and reduce traffic on local streets Monday.
Gray said the ramp should help decrease commuters’ travel times, reduce traffic on local streets as people cut through to avoid traffic and contribute to efforts for a sustainable waterfront in D.C.
He led a group that included D.C. Department of Transportation Director Terry Bellamy, federal partners and local community representatives across the ramp for a ceremonial first drive Monday morning. The ramp opened to the public afterwards.
The new ramp links DC-295 and Interstate 395 for the first time since they were built in the 1960s. It was built as part of the 11th Street Bridge project, the largest in DDOT’s history.
