No. 9 The Most Haunted Place on Earth The island of Poveglia, outside of Venice, is considered by locals and paranormal experts to be the most haunted place on Earth. It served as as a quarantine facility for those suffering from the black plague and those who died were typically cremated. Later, an insane asylum was built on the island and the patients were subjected to cruel experiments. An Italian businessman bought it for less than $1 million but he could spend millions more to make it suitable for tourists, according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.
