BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Louisiana Tech coach Rick White wasn’t at Conference USA media day, but his team’s presence was certainly felt.

The Bulldogs are the preseason favorite to win the league, and they had three players selected to the 10-member preseason all-conference team.

White spoke Wednesday by telephone from Ruston, Louisiana, where he remained to await the birth of his fifth child. White says the team can “be in the thick of things and have a chance to do some nice things again” if it works hard.

The Bulldogs return four starters from last season’s 29-8 team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the postseason NIT.

UTEP coach Tim Floyd’s team was picked to finish second. Floyd agrees with the top pick, saying “Louisiana Tech is going to be very, very good.”
