UCLA plans new basketball practice facility

LOS ANGELES (AP) — UCLA is planning to build a new basketball practice facility near Pauley Pavilion for the men’s and women’s teams once money is raised to pay for it.

Athletic director Dan Guerrero said Thursday that it will cost between $30 million and 40 million; the project will be privately funded. He says that as various funding thresholds are met, construction will begin.

The building would contain men’s and women’s practice gyms, locker rooms and a training area. It would be located at the south end of the Los Angeles Tennis Center on campus.

The project is part of UCLA’s recently announced Centennial Campaign. The athletic department wants to surpass its goal of $260 million in money raised by 2019.

In 2012, UCLA debuted a $132 million renovation to Pauley Pavilion, where the men’s and women’s basketball teams share practice and game time with the indoor volleyball and gymnastics programs.
