CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Jacob Huesman and Keon Williams ran for second-quarter touchdowns as Chattanooga twice rallied to beat Mercer 38-31 on Saturday.
The win leaves the Mocs (5-3, 4-0) unbeaten in Southern Conference play. Mercer (5-4, 1-4) came within a touchdown on Jagger Lieb’s 42-yard field goal mid-fourth quarter, and had two final drives fall short after forcing Chattanooga punts — failing on fourth down from the 20, and seeing a last pass broken up as time expired.
Huesman completed 24 of 36 passes for a career-high 359 yards and touchdowns to Xavier Borishade and Troy Dye. Huesman rushed for 99 yards.
John Russ, 293 yards passing, staked Mercer to an early lead with a keeper from the 8 and, after Chattanooga tied at 7-7, Russ hit Tee Mitchell on a 74-yard pass play.
The Mocs came back in the second quarter and led by as much as 35-14.
