Marist hands Campbell first Pioneer loss, 27-20

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Atiq Lucas rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns, scoring on a 31-yard run late in the game as Marist handed Campbell its first Pioneer League loss on Saturday, 27-20.

After Lucas’ TD, his longest run of the day, with 2:35 left to play, Mike Maccarone boomed a kickoff fielded at the 2. The Fighting Camels (4-4, 4-1) drove to the Marist 25 before the drive stalled with a sack and three incomplete passes. The Camels had tied at 20 in the fourth quarter when Brandon Mobley returned an interception 16 yards.

Marist (2-6, 2-3) ended the third quarter ahead 20-13 after Zach Quarles picked off David Salmon and returned it 4 yards to score.

Salmon threw 56 passes, completing 26 for 336 yards with a TD and the interception.

Lucas, with 23 carries, scored two early touchdowns on runs of 6 and 1 yards as underdog Marist led 14-0.
