Houston leads South Alabama past Troy, 27-13

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Kendall Houston ran for 178 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and South Alabama beat Troy 27-13 on Friday night for its fourth straight victory.

Xavier Johnson added 107 yards rushing and a score on 15 carries for the Jaguars (5-2, 4-1 Sun Belt). Brandon Bridge was 9 of 21 for 106 yards and a touchdown.

South Alabama made it 24-6 in the third quarter on Johnson’s 14-yard run and Houston’s 41-yard run.

Aleem Sunanon added a 33-yard field goal in the fourth, and Troy (1-7, 1-3) finished the scoring with a minute left on Dontreal Pruitt’s 8-yard pass to B.J. Chitty.

South Alabama took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on Sunanon’s 38-yard field goal and Bridge’s 45-yard pass to Shavarez Smith. Troy’s Ryan Kay made a 43-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 38-yarder early in the third.
