Alabama State beats Texas Southern 38-3

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Daniel Duhart ran for two touchdowns and passed for another while Preston Clark kicked five field goals in leading Alabama State to a 38-3 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday night.

Clark, a freshman who also punts for the Hornets, kicked three field goals in the first quarter and Duhart added a 25-yard touchdown run early in the second for a 16-0 lead.

The victory was the fourth in a row for the Hornets (4-1, 3-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference). The Tigers (4-1, 2-1) were handed their first defeat after getting off to the program’s best start since beginning the 2000 season 4-0.

Duhart threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to DeMario Bell and added a 3-yard, fourth-quarter scoring run. Duhart finished with 209 yards on 18-of-32 passing and ran for 63 yards. Malcolm Cyrus led Alabama State with 118 yards rushing on 16 carries. The Hornets collected 492 yards offense.
