RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Jacoby Brissett passed for 195 yards and three touchdowns to help North Carolina State blank Presbyterian 42-0 on Saturday night.
Matt Dayes ran for a 68-yard touchdown and had a touchdown catch for the Wolfpack, who moved to 4-0 for the first time since 2010.
N.C. State has scored more than 38 points in three consecutive games for the first time since a four-game stretch that covered its final two games of 1972 and its first two games of 1973.
The Wolfpack seized control with a pair of touchdowns late in the second quarter, and they scored on the first play of the second half on a 65-yard pass from Brissett to Bryan Underwood.
Heys McMath completed 15 of 25 passes for 130 yards for Presbyterian (2-2).
The Blue Hose dropped to 0-8 against Football Bowl Subdivision competition since joining Division I in 2008.
N.C. State recorded its first shutout since 2011 and its most lopsided shutout since a 42-point win over Richmond in 2004.
Presbyterian advanced as far as N.C. State’s 7-yard line, but that third-quarter drive ended with a missed field goal.
Leading just 7-0 for most of the first half, the Wolfpack pulled away with a pair of touchdowns in a 49-second span late in the second quarter.
The first came on a 74-yard drive in which Brissett completed 7 of 8 passes. He capped the drive with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the back right corner of the end zone with 1:58 remaining in the first half.
Jeremiah McKie lost a fumble on Presbyterian’s ensuing possession, and Brissett found Dayes for a 27-yard touchdown pass on the next play to give the Wolfpack a 21-0 lead at halftime.
N.C. State started quickly with a touchdown on a 1-yard sneak by Brissett on its first possession of the game, but most of the first half was a struggle for the Wolfpack.
Overthrown passes by Brissett and penalties kept N.C. State grounded as the Blue Hose controlled the ball for more than 20 minutes of the first half.
Presbyterian missed an opportunity to tie the game early in the second quarter when McMath overthrew a third-down pass to McKie for what would have been a touchdown against a busted coverage.
