Gahafer leads Morehead St past Davidson, 40-32

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) — Austin Gahafer threw for 276 yards and one touchdown and ran for 75 yards and another score as Morehead State beat Davidson, 40-32, in the Pioneer League opener for both schools on Saturday.

Justin Cornwall returned a Davidson (1-3) punt 58 yards to the 22 and Gahafer scored on an 8-yard run four plays later, giving Morehead State a 34-25 lead with under 8 minutes to play.

The Davidson offense then went 3-and-out and Morehead State (2-2) capitalized with a 5-yard touchdown run by Brandon Bornhauser, which was set up by a 46-yard scamper by Gahafer that made it 40-25 with just over 3 minutes remaining. Luke Boyd missed the extra point.

Rees Macshara rushed for 129 yards on 27 carries for Morehead State. Gahafer completed 24 of 41 passes to 12 different receivers.

Davidson’s J.P. Douglas passed for 282 yards and a touchdown. John Cook added 56 yards rushing and 2 scores.
