Cyrus leads Alabama State past Arkansas-Pine Bluff

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Malcolm Cyrus ran for a season-high 188 yards and three touchdowns to help Alabama State rout Arkansas-Pine Bluff 42-7 on Thursday night.

Cyrus scored had 2- and 14-yard scoring runs in the first quarter and gave the Hornets (3-1, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic) a 28-0 lead in the third with an 11-yard touchdown run.

Cyrus topped 170 yards rushing for the third straight game to push his season total to 612. He’s averaging 153 yards a game and 7.2 yards a carry.

Daniel Duhart was 9 of 17 for 142 yards. He threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to DeMario Bell in the second quarter. Khalid Thomas had a 6-yard scoring run in the third quarter, and Joshua Davis made it 42-0 with a 63-yard run early in the fourth.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-2, 0-1) broke the shutout on Benjamin Anderson’s 79-yard pass to Marvante King.
