West Virginia coach names Trickett starting QB

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia has announced that Clint Trickett will be the team’s starting quarterback this season.

Mountaineers coach Dana Holgorsen announced the move Tuesday.

Trickett transferred to WVU from Florida State as a redshirt junior in 2013. He saw action in eight games with seven starts, completing 123-of-233 passes for 1,605 yards and seven touchdowns.

Trickett had offseason shoulder surgery but Holgorsen says he’s 100 percent healthy and ready to play.

The Mountaineers open the season on Aug. 30 against Alabama at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. WVU opens the home portion of its schedule against Towson on Sept. 6.
