Md. man charged after Boston-related bomb threat

WASHINGTON – A Maryland man has been arrested after allegedly calling 911, claiming to be from Boston and threatening to “blow some more stuff up.”

Anne Arundel County police say Ronald William Smith called the emergency number at about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, made the threat and then hung up. The dispatcher researched calls that came from the same area, which led officers to a home on Broadview Boulevard in Ferndale, Md., where they found Smith.

Police say Smith, 59, admitted making the threat but acknowledged it was not true. He was arrested and charged with false statement of a destructive device, telephone misuse and arson threats.

A follow-up investigation and searches at the Ferndale residence and another residence on Calhoun Street in Baltimore — which police list as Smith’s residence — did not turn up any evidence of bomb materials or terrorism, police say.
