D.C. police officer charged with child porn production

WASHINGTON — An officer with the Metropolitan Police Department was arrested on Monday and charged with production of child pornography, according to a police department news release.

Officer Marc Washington, who has worked for D.C. police since 2006, was arrested after the Youth Investigations Division and the Internal Affairs Bureau were made aware of an allegation that the on-duty officer had produced pornographic images of a child. The department says it learned of the allegation on Monday and made the arrest within hours.

Washington was assigned to the Seventh District, which covers portions of Southeast.

“To learn of an allegation of this kind against a person who is sworn to protect our children, it is both shocking and disturbing,” said Police Chief Cathy Lanier in the release. “We are fortunate that someone came forward to alert us.”

The department is investigating whether Washington was involved in other similar offenses, it says. They ask anyone with information call 202-576-6768.
