WASHINGTON – Who makes the most money in your family? It’s becoming more common for women to be the biggest breadwinners.

Four out of 10 working women now earn more money than men.

It’s a trend has been building over the past 20 to 30 years.

“As woman are getting more college degrees and more graduate degrees, they have better equipment in a sense to head into the job market, so they’re getting better jobs,” Time Magazine’s Nancy Gibbs tells MSNBC.

Gibbs expects that by 2030 a majority of women will outearn men.

A Time Magazine cover story on this is based on Liza Mundy’s book “The Richer Sex” that explores how the trend is transforming society.
