COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Dez Wells scored 19 points and Maryland rallied in the final nine minutes to beat Denver 62-52 Thursday night in the second round of the NIT.

The Terrapins (24-12) closed the game with a 21-4 run after trailing 48-39 with 9:15 left. Wells fueled the surge with nine points.

Maryland will next play the winner of the Alabama-Stanford game to be played Saturday.

Chris Udolfia scored 24 for the Pioneers (22-10), including 19 during a first half that featured three ties and 12 lead changes.

Although Udolfia picked up his third foul soon after halftime, Denver’s Brett Olsen made a three-point play and a 3-pointer within a minute to put the Pioneers up by nine.

The Terps used five straight free throws to launch the decisive run. A runner by Seth Allen put Maryland up 51-50 with 4:09 remaining, the first time the Terrapins led after halftime.
