Weekend Reporter (Part-Time)

STATUS: Part-time, Hourly

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four (4) year degree in Journalism, Communications, or equivalent, preferred.
  • Two (2) years of professional broadcasting experience.
  • Expertise in news-gathering, writing, editing, and broadcast production.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to use, effective social media tools.
  • Possess broad knowledge of local and regional issues.
  • Ability to conduct online research, word processing, and digital editing.
  • Ability to handle stress effectively.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to work in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to function in a team environment.

DUTIES:

  • Selects and researches topics; generates, develops, contacts and interviews sources; maintains notes and audio recordings; writes and edits reports/newscasts.
  • Produces and delivers stories in appropriate forms for broadcast (live onair, copy, cut &copy, voice, wrap, features, series, documentary, etc.)
  • Proactively participates in the creative cycle of story and program origination with reporters, supervisors, producers and writing staff.
  • Operates board, computers, recording machines and other broadcast equipment as necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to manipulate computer keys and general office equipment (telephone, copier, calculator, etc.) for extended periods of time
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly and follow both oral and written direction
  • The Company may make reasonable accommodations to facilitate the ability to perform essential job functions
  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: activities may occur inside and outside
  • During breaking news stories, the worker could be subject to extreme hot, or extreme cold, or working in hazardous news situations
