Former teacher arrested for allegedly distributing cocaine

August 26, 2008 - 5:51pm
ROCKVILLE, Md. - A former Montgomery County Public Schools teacher has been arrested for allegedly distributing cocaine.

Montgomery County Police arrested 44-year-old Theresa Cunningham Duarte on Aug. 25 after receiving reports that she was providing illegal drugs to students at Thomas S. Wootton High School.

Duarte was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and and two counts of contributing to conditions of a child.

Police say she distributed cocaine to students on more than one occasion from her home on Brice Road in Rockville.

Duarte was a substitute teacher at Einstein High School in Kensington during the 2003-2004 school year. She was hired full time at Wootton High School in Rockville in July of 2004.

She resigned for unknown reasons from Wootton High School at the end of the 2007-2008 school year, before the start of the investigation.

Police believe there are more students who may have received illegal drugs from Duarte.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Family Crimes Detective K. Carvajal at 240-773-5400.
