Metro’s Blue Line has worst on-time performance

WASHINGTON – Metro Blue Line riders now have evidence to back their complaints of having the worst commute.

A new Metro report finds the Blue Line had the worst on-time performance of all of Metro’s lines, between April 2011 and March 2012.

In that time period, 88.2 percent of Blue Line trains were on time, compared to 89.5 percent of Red Line trains.

Metro says overall, its rail service was on time 89.8 percent of the time. Its bus service is on time 77.6 percent of the time.

The Blue Line originates at the Franconia-Springfield Metro station. Riders there Wednesday morning were surprised to hear the Blue Line has the worst performance.

A majority of riders said they would have expected that title to go to the Red Line.

Below is how all five Metro lines performed:

  • Blue Line: 88.2 percent
  • Red Line: 89.5 percent
  • Green Line: 91.1 percent
  • Yellow Line: 91.2 percent
  • Orange Line: 92.6 percent
  • Average (All Lines): 90.2 percent

The report also finds that Metro railcar doors continue to create ongoing challenges.

The report is expected to be presented to the Metro Board Thursday.
