The stock market is opening slightly lower after U.S. employers added fewer jobs than expected in August.
Bonds jumped on the news. The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 2.42 percent. It was 2.45 late Thursday.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell six points to 17,061 shortly after the opening bell Friday.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index eased less than a point to 1,997.
The Labor Department reported the U.S. employers added 142,000 jobs last month, ending six straight months of hiring above 200,000.
