Officer accused of FLOTUS threat forgoes Secret Service suit

WASHINGTON – The D.C. police officer who may have made threatening remarks about the first lady will not be prosecuted by the Secret Service and is still working, the chief of police tells WTOP.

An officer was accused of threatening first lady Michelle Obama in July. This led to a joint investigation between the Secret Service and the D.C. police department to determine if there was a valid threat, and if it was prosecutable.

Initial reports indicated several officers associated with the White House motorcycle escorts could be disciplined for the incident. Chief Cathy Lanier said Thursday on WTOP’s “Ask the Chief” that only one officer is under investigation.

The incident is now considered an “administrative investigation,” Lanier says, and will be turned over to the D.C. police Internal Affairs Division.

The officer is on “non-contact,” she says, but is still working.
