WASHINGTON - Whether its on WTOP, cable TV or Twitter, Redskins legend John Riggins has been very critical of the Skins, both on and off the field. Now a fellow Redskins legend, former quarterback Joe Theismann, is speaking out as well.
WTOP talked with Joe Theismann at FedEx Field Saturday about some of John Riggins recent comments, specifically about owner Dan Snyder.
"I think John is way out of line. I feel like he has turned this into a personal vendetta and I don't believe that the forum to do stuff like that is radio or television or anyplace else."
Theismann also commented on Riggins' criticism of the rest of the Redskins organization.
"Things haven't worked out, but we've had things not work out before and nobody has personally attacked individuals. I just feel like John has really crossed the line and stepped beyond the boundaries of decency."
When asked why Riggins was speaking out so forcefully, Theismann said he didn't know.
"I dont know why - what John's motivation is. He basically has said that he has an axe to grind, he said that publicly. I don't know why."
Then Theismann took it one step further.
"I don't believe he's the voice of the fans. He may think he's a martyr, but he's not."
WTOP asked Theismann what he thought was the solution to the conflict between Riggins and the Redskins.
"I don't really know. I don't know, I don't know what it is. Obviously there's opinion expressed. I think the one thing that all of us do feel as fans of the Washington Redskins is we'd like to see more success. They go out and win two, three, football games you know everybody's going to be happy in Redskin land again."
Theismann does host a radio show on a station owned by Dan Snyder. Riggins, who used to work for that station, returns Wednesday at 10 a.m. for the second edition of "Ask Riggo" on WTOP Radio.
