Local cooling centers remain open

WASHINGTON - It's another brutally hot day in the nation's capital, prompting the D.C. government to issue a heat alert.

Here's some ways on how to stay cool:

D.C.

Four cooling centers will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays only. The centers are located at:

  • One Judiciary Square - 441 4th Street NW
  • Frank D. Reeves Center - 2000 14th Street NW
  • King Office Building - 3720 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE
  • 920 Rhode Island Avenue NE

Virginia:

  • Alexandria - All city recreation centers and all city libraries will be open until 9 p.m. and will serve as air-conditioned cooling centers.

  • Arlington County - All community centers and libraries are air-conditioned and open to the public. The Wakefield, Washington-Lee and Yorktown swimming pools are open until 7 p.m.
    The following parks have water features and are open until 8 p.m.: Hayes Park (1516 N. Lincoln St.); Lyon Village Park (1800 N. Highland St.); Powhatan Springs Park (6020 Wilson Blvd.); Upton Hill Park (6060 Wilson Boulevard).

  • Prince William County - for a list of county pools.

Maryland:

  • Montgomery County - Click here for a list of county pools.

  • Prince George's County - Click here for a list of community centers and here for a list of pools.

  • Anne Arundel County - Residents can take advantage of air-conditioned public facilities such as senior centers, public libraries, and local shopping malls.

  • Howard County - Click here for a list of community and recreation centers.
