WASHINGTON -- More is known today about the Chevy Chase couple found dead in their home.
An autopsy now confirms Dr. Michael Spevak, 68, and his wife, Virginia, 67, were murdered.
Beverly Fields, spokeswoman for D.C.'s Chief Medical Examiner, says Michael Spevak suffered sharp and blunt force trauma injuries to his head and neck. Virginia Spevak incurred sharp force injuries to her neck, chest and abdomen and blunt force injuries to her head.
Metropolitan Police are not providing any information on a possible motive in the case, although they are investigating whether Spevak's psychiatric patients or people connected with his wife's work with foster children might be involved.
Police found the two dead about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in their home in the 5300 block of Belt Road. The police had been asked to check on the couple's welfare.
Mayor Adrian Fenty says crime in the Chevy Chase area of the District is very rare.
"In the two years I've been in office, I don't think there's been a single homicide in Ward 3," Fenty said.
The couple's Toyota Scion was found early Sunday morning on Ingraham Street where it had been set on fire. The police department is offering a $50,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Tips can be called into Crime Solvers at 800-673-2777.
