WASHINGTON - The former chief pharmacist for St. Elizabeths Hospital faces prison time after pleading guilty to stealing $95,000 of medications from the hospital.

U.S. Attorney Jeffrey A. Taylor describes what Raymond Jackson, 48, of Waldorf, Md., did as "appalling."

"He stole those medications and then together with his wife sold the medications through a company they had set up," Taylor says.

"This is outrageous conduct from a person who held a position of trust."

The drugs stolen from St. Elizabeths were not controlled substances. They were mostly psychotropic medications and medications for hypertension.

Jackson could get up to 10 years in prison, but under under federal sentencing guidelines faces between 24 and 30 months.

In total, Jackson and his wife, Brenda, sold stolen medications worth $235,882.

Brenda Jackson stole medications from where she worked, Kaiser Permanente's pharmacies in Maryland. Last week in Prince George's County she was sentenced to six months in prison.

Raymond Jackson will be sentenced May 2.
